Let's Do A Reality Check

As frequently stressed beings, a lot of us have a tendency to blow things out of proportion. Your new friend not texting you back means that they think that you're a nobody. A pizza delivery that's late means that all jobs are effectively worthless. Having exams means an opportunity offered by the world to embarrass yourself and everyone you know too.

Yeah, no.

Here are a list of questions that you may wanna consider asking yourself when you feel that you may be exaggerating your interpretation of the situation or because you wanna make sure you've pulled yourself together before you make a hasty decision.

1) Take some time to breath and drink some water as you come to grips with the situation. Let five minutes pass. Okay, now do you feel the same way?

2) Are you letting anxiety cloud your judgement? Should you?

3) Identify the emotion that seems to be overwhelming your head right now. Allow yourself to feel it, but do you really think the intensity of your mood is warranted by the situation?

4) Is this really such a big deal that will considerably change your state of mind for the worse for years to come?

5) Do you lack the means to be able to get through this okay?

6) You may or may not have had any control over this happening to you, but do you lack control as to how you get to face it?

7) Are the chances that you'll cope with this just fine slimmer than the odds of a coin toss?

8) Do you lack the support of friends and family who would cheer you on and have your best interests in heart?

9) Are the consequences of this situation, whether good or bad, ones that cannot be reversed or prevents any recovery on your side?

10) Is it really worth allowing this situation to make you doubt your abilities and make you lose sleep?

For every no that you said, trust in yourself to bounce back from any low that you might be feeling whenever you're up for it. Remember that as far as most of us are concerned, it's never as bad as we imagine it to be.
